On 7 April Florence Peake brings her new performance MAKE
to YSP that celebrates the working life at the Park, including the movement, cleaning and installation of sculptures. Peake will choreograph and direct performers through synchronised activity, to create a monolithic structure in Longside Gallery, which is immediately dismantled.
Call for Participants - *EXTENDED UNTIL 24 MARCH *
Materials for Making
is a weekend workshop opportunity for 15 participants working with sculpture materials in relation to the moving body and improvisation processes with materials. In order to create the work safely, it will be necessary to have some prior experience in movement practice. To get involved please email before 24 March.
The workshops will include working with lengths of wood to explore framing, delineating and the demarcation of space, contact improvisation tasks with objects and wood lengths. Looking at specific works at YSP, using them as references for improvisation tasks, you will build sculpturally onto the body creating large-scale forms and extensions from the body. Also you will look at collective building and the construction of large structures.
Materials explored: wood, domestic materials including plastic sheeting, polystyrene blocks with contact improvisation and movement explorations.
The performance MAKE
will be underpinned by these methods and practices. Five participants from the workshops will be invited to take part in the full production on Saturday 7 April. Invited participants must be available from 4 - 7 April for rehearsals and the performance on 7 April. There is no fee for taking part in the workshops or performance but offers an opportunity to work in a professional context and with an established choreographer to develop performance skills.
