Anna Collette Hunt uses clay to animate imagined and historic narratives, creating vivid
worlds that delight and stir the imagination. Inspired by traditional English grandeur and
obsessions for collecting, she creates installations that immerse the viewer in fleeting,
magical scenarios.

More Information

Infestation is an extension of Hunt’s project Stirring the Swarm, originally unveiled at Nottingham Castle in 2011. Inspired by the Entomology collections at the Castle, Hunt envisaged a fairy tale narrative in which the dormant specimens mysteriously came back to life, swarming around the historic building.

At YSP, thousands of delicately handmade insects infest the YSP Centre and YSP Learning stairwells, leaving a dazzling trail in their wake. The static swarm of beautiful, mutated forms seems to have escaped, sweeping through the building as an evolved single life form. In the YSP Centre the swarm is enlivened by the sinister sound of wings fluttering, creating an unsettling atmosphere.

Download the Stirring the Swarm app to explore the project further and build your own magical hybrid insects. Available for iPhone, iPad and iPod.
