More Information

The UK premiere of her monumental Ten Seated Figures provides a strong sculptural statement about her experience of war and political oppression. Abakanowicz’s groups of figurative forms often appear identical on the surface but on closer inspection reveal individuality.

My work comes from the experience of crowds, injustice and aggression... I feel an affinity for art when it was made a form of existence, like when shamans worked in the territory between men and unknown powers... I try to bewitch the crowd.”

The work is loaned by the artist and Galerie Scheffel, Bad Homburg, Germany.

Comments

At last an exhibition of this wonderful Polish artist's work in Britain. I remember studying her work when I was a student myself more than twenty years ago when Bretton Hall was still a well respected centre of the Arts. I can't wait to see it.
