The exhibition which will stay in my memory for ever is Ronald Rae's animals, in particular the tiger, so noble, and the dying elephant. The latter reduced me to tears. The granite itself and the workmanship, Rae's affinity with the animals, made this unforgettable. Moore's King and Queen also much loved.

2nd May 2007. Escape from life's turmoil-moments of calm and beauty...and standing close together in the widest open spaces! Finding a crackled heart beneath our feet and staring at the sky.

Our first visit to YSP was in summer 2006 when we really enjoyed sitting in the Deer Shelter watching the sky. Later that year we visited the Alhambra in Granada. As we walked through the Nasrid Palace and into the Courtyard of the Mexuar we looked up to see a square of sky that took us right back to the day in Yorkshire and the Deer Shelter view. Our experience of the continuity between the view within the Moorish architecture of hundreds of years ago and the modern art in Yorkshire was striking.

Counting...
I can count on the seeds of one clock the number of times I have been so inspired, by any place, any where...Thank you so much for being there!

I first visited the YSP whilst at Bradford University in early 1992. There was a freezing fog around, and after a difficult journey we got to a near-deserted park. Everything was covered in frost, even the spider's webs on the bushes, and the sculptures would suddenly loom out of the fog at you. I found this a truly magical experience, as though I'd walked through the wardrobe into Narnia in winter. In a word, unforgettable.

A particularly memorable visit to YSP for me was my first one, nearly 10 years ago, to an exhibition held to commemorate the work of my uncle, the sculptor George Fullard, who died in 1973. (See photo taken by my younger son Richard Smith). Since then, especially since we moved back to Yorkshire in 2001, there have been many visits to YSP, often with family or friends. A recent particularly memorable visit has been to James Turrell's Skyspace in the Deer Shelter last August, when we held a Quaker Meeting for Worship, looking up at the sky gradually darkening outside. We're very grateful to the YSP staff who stayed late into the evening to assist us in doing this. Thank you all so much, and here's to your next 30 years!

I emigrated to Australia in 2006 but still keep up-to-date with events at YSP. I was a Friend of YSP for a few years and during that time sponsored my name in the Walk of Art. I lived at Calder Grove, Wakefield so YSP was virtually on my doorstep and I spent many happy hours there. My children were introduced to YSP as babies and always make a point of visiting when they are back in the area. I have lost count of the number of people I have introduced to YSP.
I actually met my husband at YSP in 2004 and that is why I now live in Australia. He had lived here in the 90's and had the opportunity to return in 2005. I joined him in 2006 and we were subsequently married in Brisbane. One of the first places I revisited on my first visit back to the UK was YSP and I am sure I will do this again on each of my return visits to the UK.
