Taking a View: Tailor Made Tours
Art and landscape tours at YSP which cater specifically for the needs of people with dementia and those who support them, created in partnership with South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
Book a package of four tour sessions at YSP: enjoy a tailor made visit to the beautiful landscape of YSP and explore the changing exhibitions of sculpture which will form a base for reminiscence and creative thought. The trained tour leaders are artists who will be encouraging the making links between sculptures, the environment and peoples’ own experiences.
Taking a View invites support workers bringing groups from care units and families interested in joining their relative on tours. Experience a friendly, accessible journey which offers new ways of stimulating discussion and reminiscence.
Taking a View: Training
Continued professional development for care professionals.
Bespoke training for care centre staff with a YSP artist educator. This is an opportunity to learn creative skills which involve the senses and are excellent for sensory orientation and stimulation for people with Dementia. Taking place at your care centre and in the beautiful surroundings of YSP, the courses support you in embedding these new skills into existing care practice.
Background
The Adapt project is part of Wakefield older people’s services review of the day treatment service offer for older people with a diagnosis of Dementia. Funded by the South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, YSP has been invited to develop a range of visual arts based psychosocial interventions and activities. The Adapt project included an exchange of staff training for both YSP Learning staff and NHS workers.
