Why do you charge for car parking?
Car park charges contribute significantly to the running costs of YSP which is a registered charity.
Why have you raised car parking charges in recent years?
Raising our car parking charges was a tough decision, but we’ve been hit hard by rising running costs and funding cuts. It costs £3.5m each year to run YSP and we receive only £1.5m funding. We therefore have to raise £2m each year to deliver the exhibitions, education and community work we do in the district, as well as maintain the 500-acre estate.
Why do you need my car registration details?
CCTV and Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras read vehicle number plates on arrival at each of our car parks. Cheaper and less intrusive than barriers, the number plate recognition system allows us to track how long people stay and therefore charge for parking more fairly.
How can I save money on car parking?
If you are a regular visitor, it may be worth purchasing an annual parking permit by joining YSP Friends
(£65, £60 concessions p.a.). Benefits to the scheme include free parking, 10% discount in the shop and restaurant, and admission to exclusive events.
What do you offer for Blue Badge holders?
Parking charges apply to Blue Badge holders but we do offer priority parking spaces, free use of mobility scooters and a £40 annual parking permit. Ask at the YSP Centre Information Desk for more information.
How can I avoid car park charges?
We have no admission fee so visitors can avoid charges altogether – the 96 bus runs between Wakefield and Barnsley, with frequent stops at YSP. Find out more at wymetro.com
What happens if I don't pay for car parking?
Your payment will be registered against your number plate on departure and in the event of non-payment, a parking charge notice will be issued via the DVLA.
Can you move between car parks on one charge?
Yes. Transfer between car parks is permitted, simply pay for the whole time you are on site.
Do you have to display a ticket in your vehicle?
No. The system is automatic number plate recognition, you do not need to return to your vehicle to display a ticket.
