More Information

It is a great pleasure to invite you to join YSP and artist Jem Finer in celebrating the installation of Still in the YSP Chapel, on Thursday 26 April 2012 from 2pm.

Still is a mesmerising installation of 700 images taken by a solar-powered camera in a Kent forest, constantly re-composed through software designed by the artist. Still captures two years in the historic woodland through an ever-changing sequence between dawn and dusk; an ebb and flow of time through which the viewer is as likely to witness the passing of a single day as a full year.

Jem Finer originally trained as a computer scientist before co-founding The Pogues and subsequently establishing a highly respected art practice, which continues to push the boundaries of visual and sonic composition. The Artangel commission Longplayer, for example, is a 1000-year long algorithmic musical composition that has been playing since midnight on 31 December 1999.

We do hope that you can join us for lunch at 2pm in the YSP Restaurant, followed by a walk through the landscape to experience the work in the Chapel. You are very welcome to stay for an in-conversation between the artist and Ben Tufnell, Director of Exhibitions at Haunch of Venison, 6pm-7.30pm. Between lunch and the talk you may like to see Miró: Sculptor and Sophie Ernst: HOME together with newly restored lakes and woodland and works from the open air collection, including James Turrell, Dennis Oppenheim, Martin Creed, Sol LeWitt, Alec Finlay, Barbara Hepworth, Henry Moore and Anthony Caro.
