Alec Finlay's residency project at YSP between 2005 and 2006 sought to introduce new ways of understanding the parkland through his deft 'monotonal' approach. This involves effecting subtle changes to parts of a landscape that animate the whole space, or as Finlay describes, 'a succession of small notes heard across a wide field'. This book, whose publication was synchronised with Finlay’s residency, contains both magnificent colour photographs from ‘Some Versions of Landscape’, the collection of projects under which Avant-Garde English Landscape was subsumed, and many extracts from Finlay's witty and poetic notebooks.
