Access Sculpture Trail

access sculpture trail

Access Sculpture Trail was once a neglected part of the estate and was remodelled from 1985 by British sculptor Don Rankin. With other artists and trainees, he created an interweaving network of paths, plants and sculpture.

Access Sculpture Trail is designed to respond to the seasons and time of day, providing a constantly changing environment. Over the years in which the trail has matured, artists have used the designed landscape as a site in which to place other work.

The trail can be exited at several points, but the pergola leading from the University car park provides a covered walkway into this area of YSP. Architectural and landscape features such as a stone circle, well and miniature aqueduct were constructed to shape and provide structure for the trail. Herbs, grasses and seasonal wild flowers await discovery.

Access sculpture trail now contains new sitings of work by Eduardo Paolozzi
